Ukraine in and after Euromaidan: changes in the political culture and the spontaneous activism

On November 27, 2014, guest-speaker of HSSF and NBU was Svitlana Khutka, who spoke on the above mentioned topic. Her discussant was Tom Junes and moderator of the event – Dimitar Vatsov. D. Vatsov opened the public lecture by presenting the goals and tasks of Civic practice for students and teachers. Post 2011 protests project, the key-speaker and her discussant. S. Khutka is one of the spokespersons of Euromaidan which is a subject of her research as well. She made an analytical cut of the protests on the Maidan, presented data, which pointed to the constellation of values the protesters possessed, went on by commenting on the events that took place after the Maidan protests, and discussed the political situation at present and the role of Russia in the political decision-making process. The critical comment of T. Junes referred to the protests in Bulgaria the same year in an attempt to illustrate the similarities and differences between them. He raised the questions about the paid protesters, the economic demands of the protest, the importance of an active civil society, as well as the issue of social media as an instrument of mobilization.
