Protest, revolution, war: a year after Eurmaidan
28.11.2014 @ 17:00 - 19:00

On November 28, 2014, the topic of the Ukrainian events found its logical continuation in the frames of the debate, organized by HSSF and The Cultural Centre of Sofia University with key-speakers Tetyana Zhurzhenko and Tom Junes, moderator – Milena Yakomova. Here again the moderator opened the event with a short presentation of the goals and tasks of the project and the key-speakers. T. Zhurzhenko drew a link between the events that took place on the Maidan and the Orange Revolution, outlined the similarities and differences between these key events, and spoke about the future of occupied Ukraine and whether it would have one if Vladimir Putin refused dialogue. T. Junes gave a different direction to the debate – he underscored the important role of students within the protests of Euromaidan and made a parallel with the occupation of Sofia University as a form of protest that students organized in the fall of 2013. An interesting parallel with the students in Ukraine was added by Zhurzhenko who said that the attitudes and protest acceptance of students in Eastern and Western Ukraine differed as did respectively their active support for it.
